Introduction

Conversation classes is a period normally held once a week in every class. It is called circle time, culture class etc. In this class the students and the class teacher and if possible other teachers teaching the class sit together, in a circle, either inside the class or under a tree and have the space for sharing. There is no fixed agenda, except to have conversation space. The topic of discussion can be brought up by anybody. Normally, once a topic is decided, the topic or theme is followed through the whole period.

Schools perhaps play the most significant role in the process of socializing a young person in their formative years. The other key players are obviously the family and society itself. As a teacher I am wondering about the role of socialization in schools. Within school too there are different players—teachers, peers, the culture of the space—all of which play important roles. In this article I am reflecting on my role as a teacher in our small alternative spaces and comparing it with my own experience as a student.

நான்கு மாதக் காலத்தில் புதர்கள், நீரோட்டங்கள், நீர்நிலைகளைப் பற்றி நேரடி அவதானி ப்பு மூலம் தி ருவண்ணாமலை மருதம் பள்ளி மாணவர்களும் ஆசிரியர்களும் கற்றுக் கொண்டோம். ஆண்டுதோறும் மேற்குt மலைத் தொடருக்கு ஒரு முறை சென்றுவருவோம். மேற்கண்ட அவதானிப்புக்குப் பிறகு, மேற்கு மலைத் தொடர் பயணத்திற்கு உற்சாகமாகத் தயாரானோம். அங்கே செல்வதன் முக்கிய நோக்கம், அந்த இயற்கை எழிலில் மூழ்கி இயற்கையுடன் உறவை வலுப்படுத்தி க்கொள்வது மட்டுமல்லாமல் இயற்கையின் வெவ்வேறு அங்கங்களைப் பற்றிக் கற்றுகொள்வதும்தான்.

அவதானிப்பு, செயல்வழிக் கற்றலின் அடுத்த படியாகக் காடு வளர்ப்பு, மீட்டெடுப்புப் பணிகளில் திருவண்ணாமலை மருதம் பள்ளி மாணவர்களுடன் இணைந்து பணியாற்றி வருகிறோம். இப்பணியில் வெவ்வேறு நிலைகள் உள்ளன.

புதர்களைப் பற்றி நேரடியான அவதானிப்பு மூலம் கற்றுக்கொள்ள ஆரம்பித்த பின் அடுத்த பாடத்திட்டமாக நீர்நிலைகளைப் பற்றியும் நீர்நிலைகளுக்கு நீர் எங்கிருந்து வருகிறது என்பதைப் பற்றியும் படிப்பது என்று திருவண்ணா மலை மருதம் பள்ளியில் முடிவெடுத்தோம்.

சுற்றுச்சூழல் ஆய்வு, உயிரியல் பாடங்கள் குறித்த கற்றலுக்கும் கற்பித்தலுக்கும் திறந்தவெளியைப் பயன்படுத்துவது மிகச் சிறப்பானது என்பதைப் பலமுறை உணர்ந்துள்ளேன். திருவண்ணாமலை மருதம் பள்ளியில் கரோனா பெருந்தொற்றுக் காலத்தில் பல பாடங்களை வெளிப்புறச் சூழலிலே கற்றோம். அந்த அனுபவத்தை இங்கே பகிர விரும்புகிறேன்.
